Le livre Toussaint Louverture: Le procès de la traite des Noirs est un ouvrage d’information et de formation, un livre de référence qui doit être lu et utilisé comme un outil éducatif sur l’esclavage. Écrit dans un style inédit, ce livre nous offre une documentation assez complète sur la traite négrière pratiquée tout au cours du XVe jusqu’au début du XIXe siècle. Ce procès fictif de l’esclavage et de la traite négrière devant la CPI alerte la conscience mondiale sur le problème de l’esclavage moderne dans le monde. Ce qui compte dans ce récit imaginaire, c’est la mise en mémoire des crimes qui ont été commis sur les Noirs pendant la traversée de l’Atlantique jusqu’à leur arrivée en Amérique, et ensuite les crimes commis dans les plantations de canne à sucre, de café, de coton, de tabac, de riz et d’indigo. Dans ce procès inventé, ce ne sont pas les accusés qui sont les plus importants. Ils ne sont que onze, donc assez peu en regard des millions de personnes en France, en Angleterre, en Espagne, en Belgique, au Portugal, au Danemark, en Hollande, et aux États-Unis qui ont participé au commerce de la traite et qui ont tiré profit de l’esclavage. En revanche, les dépositions des témoins et des plaignants placés dans un contexte réel, constituent un document complet pour comprendre la traite négrière et fournir l’outil indispensable pour lutter contre l’esclavage moderne et la servitude dans le monde.
